The British Ambassador in Washington, Lord Halifax', and Lady Halifax, have arrived at Baltimore from Lisbon on their return to the United States from England. Professor R. O. McGechan and Professor A. G. Davis have bene appointed by the Governor-General as members of the Council of Legal Education, representing the Senate of the University of New Zealand. The death occurred unexpectedly on Sunday evening in the Buller Hospital of Mr E. S. Ollerenshaw, who recently retired from the Post and Telegraph Department on superannuation after 41 years’ service, says a Press Association message from Westport. The funeral of the late Mr T. A. Root took place in Masterton yesterday afternoon, the interment taking place at the Soldiers’ Plot in the Cemetery. The Ven. Archdeacon E. J. Rich conducted the service at the chapel of Hyde’s Funeral Service and also officiated at the graveside. Among the wreaths was one from the Riverside Golf Club. The pall-bearers were Messrs W. Williams, E. Miller, C. Hansen, H. A. Speight, L. Haxton and J. D. O’Connor, the last named representing the Wairarapa R.S.A.
