NEED FOR SHIPS

CONSTRUCTION IN AUSTRALIA. NAVAL VESSEL LAUNCHED. (Special Australian Corresopndent.) (Received This Day, 1.20 p.m.) SYDNEY, This Day. The need for a powerful and balanced fighting force, to enable Australia to overcome the enemy, was again emphasised by the Prime Minister, Mr J. Curtin, at the launching of a naval vessel in an Australian dockyard. He said Australia was predominantly responsible for its own defence and the security of more places as well. More ships were wanted. The New South Wales Government is pushing engineering and shipbuilding works to completion and plans to provide space for four shipbuilding berths, two of which will take vessels up to 500 feet in length.
