NEW YORK DEMOCRATS

CONVENTION NOT FRIENDL'-' TO PRESIDENT. BUT CANDIDATE PLEDGES SUPPORT. (By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright) (Received This Day, 9.50 a.m.) NEW YORK, August 21. After his nomination by the Democratic convention as its candidate for the State Governorship of New York, the State Attorney, Mr Bennett, pledged himsfelf to continue with all his heart and strength to support and encourage the fight for the foreign policy of President Roosevelt. The “New York Times,” however, reports that the Democratic State convention decidedly was not a proRoosevelt convention. Applause when Mr Roosevelt was mentioned was mild at the best and speakers for Senator Mead, who spoke of the President’s support as being necessary for the election of the party candidate, were greeted with sounds that were not exactly boos, but plainly were derisive.
