LABOUR HOLD-UP

IN U.S. METAL FACTORIES RIVAL UNIONS AT ODDS. CHECK ON PRODUCTION OF BOMBERS. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) (Received This Day, 11.20 a.m.) NEW YORK, August 19. A Cleveland message says work at eleven of the Reynolds Metals Company plants, which make aluminium aeroplane parts, has been slowed up by a labour stoppage. The president of the company said the stoppage was causing a loss to the nation equivalent to one medium bomber hourly, although all the plants are operating to some extent. He added that the stoppage was evidently caused by the dismissal of the Congress of Industrial Organisations Union plant chairman, and the C. 1.0. leaders called the stop-* page a lockout, while American Federation of Labour officials termed the trouble a cold sabotage war effort by the C. 1.0. C. 1.0. spokesmen reported that 2,000 men were already out, with more joining them constantly.
