ARMY SERVICE
RE=EXAMINATION OF ALL GRADE 2 MEN ANNOUNCED BY DEFENCE MINISTER. MANY BELIEVED NOW FIT. (Bv Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. A medical re-examination of all Grade 2 personnel serving in the New Zealand military forces is now under way, said the Minister of Defence (Mr Jones) today. A large number of the men vzho were originally placed in Grade 2 had, since their first medical examination, spent a considerable period, in training camps, continued the Minister, and it was confidently expected that the known beneficial effects of Army training would have so improved their physique that, upon re-exam-ination, they would be advanced to Grade 1. This would mean a valuable increase in the number of first-line troops, fit for duty anywhere in the world, without; adding to the Army’s calls upon the country’s manpower. The information gained from these further medical boardings would also be of value to those responsible for carrying into effect the general policy of employing fit men in fighting jobs, instead of leaving them in clerical and other posts that could be filled by men drawn from the lower medical grades. The re-examination would be Domin-ion-wide, and this week, for instance, the boards would be dealing with all Grade 2 officers and other ranks on the Army Headquarters staff.
