Mrs J. Laing, Wainui-o-ru, is visiting Auckland.
A visitor to Christchurch is Mrs H. C. Pearce, Cole Street, Masterton. Mrs G. C. Williams, Short Street. Masterton, is at present at Rotorua. Mr and Mrs N. H. James, Pownall Street, who have been on a visit to Auckland, have returned to Masterton. Dr Charles Greenslade has been elected president of the Dunedin Rotary Club, and Mr W. R. Brown vicepresident. Mr and Mrs A. Linton, Greytown, announce the engagement of their twin daughter, Beryl Jean Linton, to Sergeant Pilot Percy Everleigh Ernest Killick. only son of Mi’ and Mrs Ernest Killick, Tirangi Road, Rongotai, Wellington.The funeral of Master Clifford John Henson took place at Masterton yesterday afternoon. The services at Hyde’s Chapel and at the graveside were conducted by Archdeacon E. J. Rich. The pallbearers were Messrs W. Henson, S. Henson, L. Hickling and S. E. Hooper. Dr A. C. Aitken. D.Sc., F.R.S., and Dr H. Silverstone, Ph. D.. both graduates of the University of New Zealand, have had a joint paper on the theory of statistics published by the Royal Society of Edinburgh. Dr Aitken graduated from the University of Otago in 1924, and Dr Silverstone in 1936. Dr Silverstone studied under Dr Aitken's tuition at Edinburgh University from 1937 to 1939. He is a son of Mr Silverstone, M.L.C. Yesterday afternoon the funeral of the late Mr George Arthur Ward took place, leaving Hyde’s Chapel. The services at the chapel and at the graveside were conducted by Archdeacon E. J. Rich. Wreaths were sent, among others, by Messrs C. E. Daniell, Ltd., and the convenors of the Sewing Circle. The pallbearers were Messrs C. N. Cole, W. Edwards, C. Mills, V. Bradley, C. McQuade and F. Fellingham. The death occurred at Miramar recently of Mr James Carlisle Aickin, A.P.A.N.Z., aged 75. Born in Ireland, Mr Aickin arrived at Auckland as a young man, and for 27 years was connected with the Gisborne Sheep-farm-ers’ and Frozen Meat Mercantile Co., Ltd., where he became chief accountant in the head office, and later secretary. Twelve years ago Mr Aickin went to Wellington, where he entered into practice as a public accountant.
The funeral of the late Mrs Grace Shaw took place at Mas ter ton yesterday afternoon. The services at Lansdowne Presbyterian Church and at at the graveside were conducted by the Rev David McNeur, being very largely attended. The number of wreaths forwarded were evidence of the high esteem in which the deceased was held throughout the district. Amongst others, floral tributes were received from the members of the Masterton Harrier Club, the committee and members of the Masterton Collie Club, and the N.Z. Farmers’ Distributing Co., Masterton. The pallbearers were Messrs J. Ellis, J. Shaw, D. Donald and C. Olliver.
