PATRIOTIC FUNDS
EFFORT IN NEW ZEALAND. PROVINCIAL TOTALS. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. During the week ended on Saturday New Zealand subscribed a total 0f‘£176.387 to patriotic funds, said the secretary of the National Patriotic Fund Board, Mr G. A. Haydon, last night. The result, he added, was very good indeed. A radio and telephone appeal on Saturday night brought in the substantial increase of £54,079 as province competed against province. The largest amount, £14,335, came from Wellington. No province has yet raised its full quota, but Hawke's Bay is nearest with 86.3 per cent. Provincial totals in the current year’s campaign, with percentages of quotas and with amounts raised m the radio and telephone appeal shown m parentheses, are now as follows:— Hawke’s Bay, £57.902, 86.3 per cent (£3902) Otago, £115,938, 77.2 per cent (£7888); Nelson. £27,390, 76 per cent (£1390); Westland. £10,649, 76 per cent (£439); Southland, £45,665, 74.8 per cent (£4905) Wellington, £143.615, 66.7 per cent (£14,335); Marlborough, £BB4O, 58.9 per cent' (£740): East Coast, £13,822, 51.9 per cent (£1172); Taranaki. £45,952. 45.9 per cent (£5852); Auckland, £189,986, 37.8 per cent (£6710).
