MINOR RAIDS
MADE BY GERMAN PLANES ON BRITAIN LITTLE DAMAGE AND FEW CASUALTIES. ONE AIRCRAFT MACHINE-GUNS TOWN. (British Official Wireless.) (Received This Day. 9.40 a.m.) RUGBY, August 14. Last night a small number of enemy aircraft dropped bombs in East Anglia, causing only slight damage. No casualties have been reported. Two raiders dropped bombs near the south-east coast of England this afternoon. There were no casualties and the raiders were driven off by heavy anti-aircraft gunfire. A solitary raider which appeared over the south of England machinegunned a town before dropping bombs. Some persons were injured and some damage was done. Big guns on both sides of the Channel were in action on Wednesday night, contributing to one of the noisiest nights the Straits of Dover have experienced. The Germans, who apparently were using more guns than usual, fired some six-gun salvoes. The Berlin radio says that the Luftwaffe heavily bombed port installations at a town on the Firth of Forth, and also an aerodrome to the south, and also aircraft factories in a town in the West Midlands.
