QUESTIONS OF SUPPLY & SERVICE MR POLSON ANNOUNCES RULINGS. ARMY NOT REPLACING TIRES. WELLINGTON, This Day. The Army is unable to accept the responsibility of providing for the replacement of tires of vehicles used for Home Guard purposes, Mr. W. J. Polson stated today. Guardsmen who. require replacements will be required to apply for a licence in the ordinary way. Mr Polson said other matters concerning which decisions had been reached were that provision was to be made to exempt members from parades when battalion commanders were satisfied that a member was required for essential work during busy seasons, one Army vehicle would be made available for the headquarters of each battalion and members of the Home Guard who had passed the compulsory age of 51 would be required to continue to serve. It might be necessary, Mr Polson said, to extend the age for Home Guard service. He added that members were required to parade in civilian clothing until uniforms were issued.
