SEWING GUILD
PATRIOTIC ACTIVITIES
(“Times-Age” Special.)
A meeting of the Patriotic Sewing Guild under the auspices of th’e Mau-riceville-Ihuraua branch of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union, was held at the residence of Mrs C. R. Judd, Ihuraua, when Mrs Dagg presided over a small attendance. Seventeen parcels of woollen comforts and foodstuffs were packed and are to be forwarded to local soldiers in camp. Donations were received from Mr L. Dunn and Mesdames Hodgins and Godfrey. A competition and a “bring and buy” brought in £1 ss. A shopping basket given by Mrs Judd was won by June Anderson. Thanks for parcels were received from several soldiers overseas. “We deeply regret,” said the president, “that several of the writers have since been posted missing ” A sailor doing patrol work wrote thanking the Women’s Division for a flannel shirt, which he stated was warm and comfortable and very much appreciated. It is hoped to hold the next meeting at Tikitapu when further parcels for soldiers will be packed.
