LATEST OFFICIAL FORECAST IMPROVEMENT LIKELY. CHANGE TO NORTH-WESTERLY. The following official weather report and forecast was issued by the Meteorological Office, Wellington, at noon today:— DISTRICT FORECAST: Fresh but gradually decreasing southerly to south-westerly winds, some further showers but weather gradually improving. Temperatures cold with some frosts in sheltered positions. FURTHER OUTLOOK: Northwesterly winds; mainly fair. LOCAL REPORT. Mr N. W. Towns reports as follows for the 24 hours ended 8 a.m. today:— Barograph, 29.80. Shade temperature: Maximum 59.6, minimum 45.1, terrestrial 44.8. Sunshine, nil. Rain, 44 points. Mr H. M. Boddington reports that 33 points of rain fell at Solway during the 24 hours ended 9 a.m .today. PHASES OF THE MOON. First quarter, August 19. Full moon, August 26. Draw blinds at 6.15 p.m. today; raise them at 6.42 a.m. tomorrow
