PLUNKET SOCIETY
MEETING OF MASTERTON COMMITTEE
WOOL'FOR INFANTS’ GARMENTS.
APPEAL FOR DONATIONS.
The monthly meeting of the committee of the Masterton branch of tfe Plunket Society was held yesterday afternoon, the president, Mrs J. Caselberg, being in the chair. There was a large attendance of members. The following were appointed to the executive: Mesdames J. Caselberg, S. L. P. Free, N. Irwin, J. M. Coradine, J. C. Broad, J. V. Gordon and H. H. Daniell.
Mrs A. F. Stewart, who had resigned from the executive, was thanked for her services during the past year. Three new members of the committee, Mesdames H. Robinson and Kemble Welch and Miss B. Kummer were welcomed by the president. A circular was received from the Dominion Secretary stating that the executive had been constantly in communication with the Department of Industry and Commerce in regard to the shortage of white wool and flannel for infants’ garments and cot blankets. The Ministry of Supply had made arrangements for the manufacture of some flannel and wool within New Zealand but with the increased birth-rate it would probably be some time before industry could catch up with the demand. Owing to the shortage of wool suitable for infants’ garments, the committee would be grateful if anyone having wool to spare, however small a quantity, would leave it at the Plunket Rooms. A circular received from the secretary of the Wellington branch stated that the following nominations had been received for the election of three general members of the Dominion Council as representatives of the branches in the Wellington provincial group: Mesdames H. Jowett, W. H. Blundell and A. Hood (all sitting members) and Mesdames C. Bartholomew and B. Lynch. The three Masterton branch delegates appointed to attend the Provincial Conference in Wellington on August 18 were Mesdames J. Caselberg, S. L. P. Free and T. Jordan. Mrs Caselberg reported having attended the monthly meeting of the Karitane Hospital Committee, Feath'4 erston. Accounts amounting to £69 6s were passed. Thanks were accorded to Mrs H. McKenzie for clothing, Mrs H. Morrison for two large sacks of wood, and for seven cases of lemons and two of grape fruit, per Mr Jordan. The nurses’ report stated: Masterton, visits to office, adults 389, babies 374, older children 43, total 806; casuals, 23. Visits to homes, town, new cases 27, old cases 120, total 147.
