STATE THEATRE
“MOON OVER MIAMI." “Moon Over Miami,” which will be shown tonight has song after song, enough pretty girls to stock three Ziegfeld shows, deep purple nights and golden moons such as only musical comedy directors know, slick lines, dances, and handsome stars. In other words, it is musical comedy de luxe done in the manner of those lavish stage shows which New Zealand is not likely to see again until the conclusion of World’ War 11. Betty Grable, with a figure as perfect as a Dorothy Parker wisecrack, and her sister (Carole Landis), are employed at Texas Tommy’s hamburger stand in the wilds. Several thousand dollars come to them from a relative, and they decide to buy themselves wealthy husbands. So it’s heigh-ho for Miami, where the moon hangs low in a starspangled sky, where parties and world-famous dance bands bob up from behind every palm, and where good-looking young millionaires (Don Ameche and Robert Cummings fit the bill admirably) are just waiting to be plucked. .
