Brigadier-General John E. Dahlquist, deputy chief of staff to the commander of the U.S. forces in the European theatre, Lieutenant-General Eisenhower, said that the American organisation resembled the French and German armies more closely than the British. General Eisenhower would have the necessary naval units under his control for any combined operation. ______
