ST. ANDREW SOCIETY
AN ENJOYABLE GATHERING.
OUTSTANDING CONCERT ITEMS.
There was a large attendance at the last monthly gathering of the St. Andrew Society. The concert items were of the usual high standard, and particular pleasure was given by the vocal items of Mr. Thos. Vaughan, who played his own piano accompaniments. He was obliged to give four items before he was permitted to leave the piano. These were without exception a charming selection: “Lizzie Lindsay,” “Wha will Ride wi’ Gallant Moray,” “Her Daddie Forbade,” and “And ye Shall Walk in Silk Attire.” Mr? P. G. Ramsay contributed enjoyable piano solos, including Barratt’s “Coronach,” and earned a flattering reception. Misses Heather Douglas and Berris Perrin gave much pleasure with their fresh young voices in two vocal duets, “Lassie o’ Mine” and “Misty Islands of the Highlands.” Chief’s Piper Tom Pickett played the pipe music for the Scots dancing.
It was announced that the next regular monthly gathering would take place on Saturday, August 29, and that an additional gathering, open to the public, would be held on Wednesday, August 12. It had been found necessary meanwhile to abandon the dance practices, owing to inability, through the calls of war service, to find pipers. Reference was made to the absence, through illness, of Mr Peter McLaren, and the hope was expressed that he would soon be restored to health and vigour.
