SHORTAGE OF LABOUR FOR ESSENTIAL WAR INDUSTRIES. DRASTIC ACTION LIKELY. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) (Received This Day, 10.0 a.m.) MONTREAL, August 4. The “Gazette’s” Ottawa correspondent says a shortage of labour for essential war industries has become so acute that early and drastic action by the national selective service is foreseen to bring about urgently-needed remedies. It is indicated that the recruiting, choosing and allocating of labour for all purposes will come under one jurisdiction.
