HIGHER PAY
FOR AUSTRALIAN FIGHTING SERVICES WILL COST £11,000,000 A YEAR. ANOTHER TWO MILLIONS IN TAX REMISSIONS. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) (Received This Day, 9.55 a.m.) CANBERRA, This Day. An increase in pay for members of the Australian fighting services and their dependents was authorised by the Federal Cabinet today. The increase will represent an extra sixpence a day to the fighting man and another shilling a day for his wife and sixpence for the first child. Cabinet also decided to increase from £2OO to £250 the exemption from taxation of members of the Services. The additional pay will cost the Government about eleven million pounds a year, and another two million is involved in the remission of taxation. Rates of pay for Women’s Services personnel will be increased proportionately. i
