GOOD PROGRESS

RESTORATION OF EKETAHUNA WATER SUPPLY HALF OF BOROUGH AREA RECONNECTED. ’ I DAMAGE TO NEW COUNTY BUILDING. Good progress is being made with the work of restoring Eketahuna’s water supply, the mains of which were broken by Sunday morning’s earthquake. Late yesterday afternoon water was again made available to half the borough area and it is hoped to complete repairs to the remaining portion of the mains by tomorrow. Many other smaller breaks have yet to be attended to. The new County building has a crack over the front doorway and has broken away from an adjoining party wall. Some plaster has also fallen from the front of the building. In the previous earthquake the strongroom was damaged and this has been replaced by a concrete structure. The damage generally in Eketahuna as the result of yesterday’s earthquake was not so severe as in the earlier occasion, by reason of the fact that there was not so much to damage, though weaknesses in buildings caused by the previous disturbance were aggravated. All except three of the chimneys restored since the last earthquake were again shaken down.
