CHANNEL ACTION

SPIRITED & SUCCESSFUL ADMIRALTY PRAISES LIGHT CRAFT. ENEMY LEFT FIGHTING OWN FORCES. (British Official Wireless.) (Received This Day. 11.45 a.m.) RUGBY, August 2. An action in the Channel, in which British light coastal craft left German torpedo-boats, E-boats and coastal batteries fighting one another, is described by the Admiralty as “a spirited and highly successful action.” A British patrol engaged German E-boats and destroyed two and damaged others. Two German torpedoboats came on the scene and the British boats scored hits on both. The British boats then retired and watched with interest the action which developed between the two German forces. The shore batteries opened fire and added to the confusion. All the British boats returned to port, with only slight casualties.
