At Pukekohe on Friday, the death took place of Mr Frank Ridder, formerly of Konini. The death occurred at Eketahuna on Saturday of Mr Jack Ammunson, of Stanley Street, Parkville, at the age of 63 years. Advice has been received by Mr and Mrs T. Newland, Te Ore Ore Road, Masterton, that their son, L/Cpl., W. R. Newland (“Wick”) is missing. The many friends of Pte. G. E. A. O’Connor will regret to hear that cabled advice has been received by his brother, Mr J. W. O’Connor, 197 Queen Street, Masterton, that he has been posted as missing. The engagement is announced of Mary, only daughter of Mr and Mrs J. R. Gardiner, “Limehurst,” Pahiatua, to Lieut. Robert Keith Baker, eldest son of Mr and Mrs Leydon Baker, Cashmere Hills, Christchurch. The Dowager Grand Duchess of Luxembourg, who has been living in America with her daughter, the present Grand Duchess, and her grandson, Prince Felix, has died in hospital in New York, a London cablegram states. She underwent an operation a few weeks ago. The death has occurred of Mr Robert Oscar Allom.es, a well-known Wanganui business man, in his 75th year. Mr Allomes, who was born in Tasmania, went to Wanganui in 1894, and had been associated with a painting and decorating business ever since. Mr Allomes was a member of the Wanganui Garrison Band when it won the Australian championship at Ballarat about 30 years ago. The funeral of the late Deirdre Marlene Macdonald, daughter of Mr and Mrs R. I. Macdonald, took place in Masterton this morning, the Right Rev. John Davie officiating. Wreaths were sent by the manager and staff of the Bank of New Zealand, Messrs Hugo and Shearer Ltd., and No. 3 platoon of the Home Guard, besides many others. The pallbearers were Messrs J. H. Boustridge, J. Pike, R. I. Macdonald and E. J. Keffer. The death occurred a few days ago in Wellington of Mr H. J. Lawrence, only son of Mr and Mrs J, Lawrence, Wellington, and a grandson of the late Mr David Bell, Nireaha. Forty years of age, Mr Lawrence was educated at the Newtown Primary School and at Wellington College, and at the time of his death was on the staff of the Housing Construction Department. He was a keen sportsman and was a life member of the Wellington Mercantile Cricket League, and was its hon. secretary from 1927 to 1933.
