MAKOGAI LEPERS
APPEAL FOR DONATIONS
An appeal is made by Mr P. J. Twomey, of Christchurch, for donations for distribution to the Makogai Leper Station. Among the 651 patients in hospital there are about 100 from New Zealand's dependencies.
Gifts of money will be most useful, and practically the whole of what is received will be spent in New Zealand. Other suitable gifts include light materials (new) for women’s and children’s clothes, silks and embroidery cottons, singlets, new sandshoes, games, bats, tennis rackets, tobacco, pipes, fishing lines, soap, children’s books and a limited number of books on needlework. Sunshades or light umbrellas in good repair will also be appreciated. Half rates are' allowed on all parcels addressed to Mr Twomey for the lepers. It is hoped to gradually eliminate the scourge of leprosy from the South Pacific, though there are still about 900 cases requiring treatment in the South Solomons. Substantial help is promised in this area as soon as conditions make it possible. Mr Twomeny’s address is 172 Bealey Avenue, Christchurch, Cl.
