POST IN WASHINGTON
FOP. THE AUSTRALIAN CHIEF OF STAFF. ANNOUNCEMENT BY FEDERAL PREMIER. (By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright) (Received This Day, 10.30 a.m.) CANBERRA, This Day. That the Chief of the Australian General Staff, Lieutenant-General L. Sturdee, is to be sent to Washington as head of the Australian Military Mission has been announced by Mr J. Curtin (Federal Premier). General I Sturdee will be succeeded by Lieuten-ant-General J. D. Northcott, who now holds an important command. Lieu-tenant-General E. K. Smart, who recently went to Washington as the head of the Military Mission, will go to London, to take a similar position there. Mr Curtin said the changes were made with a view to strengthening the Australian service representation of higher strategy relating to the conduct of the war.
