KNITTING WOOL
FOR GOODS FOR PRISONERS OF WAR HOPE OF PROVIDING EXTRA SUPPLIES. RAZOR BLADES FORWARDED BY HIGH COMMISSIONER. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. The worry next of kin are experiencing in their endeavours to procure wool for knitting garments for relatives in prisoner of war camps is fully appreciated by the Prisoners of War Inquiry Office, which is giving the matter close attention. It was stated today that arrangements are being made to issue coupons earlier, to enable wool to be knitted. It is hoped that it wilt be possible to obtain additional wool, the use of which will be confined to goods for prisoners of war. A cablegram from the High Commissioner, London, says razor blades of a certain make have been sent to every New Zealand prisoner and arrangements have been made for forwarding similar blades in bulk to British camp captains for distribution to New Zealand prisoners. The blades fit the particular type of razor used by prisoners and are not obtainable in New Zealand. Officers and men held prisoner in Italian camps are: —PG 52, two officers, 266 men; PG 57, 591 men; PG 65, 542 men; PG 38, 91 officers; PG 35, 46 officers. All the prisoners in German camps Stalag Luft 1 and 2 have been transferred to Stalag Luft 3. Acknowledgment cards for quarterly personal parcels have been received from Stalag IX C, Stalag XVIII A and Stalag Luft 1.
