Mrs T. W. Wardell, Te Whiti, is visiting Auckland. Mrs Peter McLaren and her sister, Miss McLay, are staying at Raumati Beach. Mrs S. Irving, Invercargill, is staying with her sister, Mrs C. R. Mabson, Pownall Street, Masterton. Advice has been received by Mrs Savage, Hessey Street, Masterton, that her husband, Private G. M. Savage, is missing. Advice has been received by Mrs K. Peters, Bently Street, Masterton, that her son, Pte. Percy (“Pop”) Peters, is missing. The Elon Evelyn Baring has been appointed Governor of Southern Rhodesia and has received a K.C.M.G., according to a Dominions Office announcement cabled from London. The many friends of Mr and Mrs S. V. Playsted, of Masterton, will regret to hear of the death of their eldest son, Stanley John, which occurred yesterday in Wellington. The funeral will be private. The death occurred in Wellington on Sunday of Mrs Lucy Jane Arnold, wife of Mr Arthur E. Arnold, at the age of 55 years. She formerly resided in Masterton, -where she was held in high esteem by a wide circle of friends. The funeral of the late Mr T. W. Dowthwaite took place in Masterton yesterday afternoon, the Rev. I. C. Edwards conducting the service at the Chapel of Hyde’s Funeral Service Ltd. and also that at the graveside. Messrs J. V. Dolan, J. Barnes, H. M. Boddington and V. Jones were the pall-bearers. Major Philip B. Levy, whose death from wounds is recorded, was well known in Wellington, Auckland and Christchurch, in each of which he had filled prominent advertising positions. He was at different times advertisingmanager for the Goldberg Agency in Auckland, advertising manager for National Magazines, Ltd., in Wellington, and director and manager in Christchurch for Carlton Carruthers, Ltd., holding the latter position when he joined the military forces soon after the outbreak of war. He was educated at the Wellington College. Warwick’s oldest resident, Mrs R. F. Stidolph, celebrated her 99th birthday on June 10, states the Warwick (Queensland) “Daily News.” Mr W. Stidolph, of Makora Road, Masterton, is a son. .Born at Lochinvar, in the Hunter River district of New South Wales, Mrs Stidolph has resided in the Warwick district for 92 years. Though in recent years her sight and hearing have been affected, she still retains her faculties in a remarkable manner and takes a keen interest in world and civic affairs. The aggregate age of the mother and the eight surviving members of the family is 650 years, the eldest member of the family being 79 and the youngest 53.
