Gnr. Stanley W. Bracken, son of Mr W. H .Bracken, of Pahiatua, has been posted as killed in action. Advice has been received by Mrs H. Dixon, Park Avenue, Masterton, that her husband, Private H. Dixon, is missing and believed to be a prisoner of war. Sergeant W. Tye, who was mentioned in a cablegram from London, published yesterday, as flying a Hurricane bomber, is a son of the Rev. W. Tye, of Tinui. Lance Corporal J. L. T. (“Tom”) Barton, son of Mrs R. J. Barton, of Pownall Street, Masterton, is reported missing, believed prisoner of war. He left New Zealand with the Second Echelon. The New Zealand Prime Minister, Mr Fraser, spent a quiet weekend, a Sydney cablegram states. He visited several personal friends and also a number of New Zealanders in Randwick Hospital. Word has been received by cable that Pilot Officer C. G. Russell, second son of Mr W. A. Russell, of Renall Street, Master ton, had been killed in an aircraft accident in Egypt. His elder brother, Sgt. G. B. Russell, is serving with the R.A.F. in England. The funeral of the late Miss E. M. Bradford took place at Masterton yesterday afternoon and was largely attended. The services at the Gospel Hall, Bannister Street, and at the graveside were conducted by Messrs C. D. Bauckham and J. C. Fisher. A number of beautiful wreaths were received. The pallbearers were Messrs J. Connors, J. H. Munn, R. E. Graham, and A. E. Bradford. Lieutenant-Colonel S. F. Allen, 0.8. E.; whose death in action is announced, was an officer of the New Zealand Staff Corps and for a period was attached to Army Headquarters. For some time after the start of the war he was area officer at Hamilton. He commanded the Divisional Signals overseas and was then appointed to command the Central Infantry 1 raining Depot. Early this year he was commanding officer of the 21st New Zealand Battalion, in succession to Lieutenant-Colonel J. M. Allen, also killed in action. He received the 0.8. E. for service in Greece and Crete. His wife lives at Karori, Wellington.
