- — STATUS OF COUNCILS. APPOINTMENT TOR MR KEBBELL. (Bv Telegraph—Press Association.) PALMERSTON NORTH, July 24. The Minister of Primary Production for War Purposes (Mr Polson) held a conference with the chairmen of the North Island district primary production councils. He discussed many aspects of the Government’s appeal for more food. He said he hoped to increase the responsibilities of the district councils and raise their status so that their decisions would be respected by the rest of the'community. Their work would not finish with the war. Messrs R. W. Kebbell (Wairarapa) and R. A. Candy (Waikato) were appointed to represent the district councils on the national council. Similar representation will be asked from the South Island, whither Mr Polson goes on a similar mission next week.
