ROMMEL'S FRONT

DENTED BUT NOT CRACKED PUSHED BACK A FEW MILES. ANTI-TANK POSITIONS NOT YET SMASHED. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) (Received his Day, 9.45 a.m.) LONDON. July 24. Rommel’s front is dented, but not cracked, says the British United Press correspondent on the Ruweisat Ridge, in a despatch dated Thursday night. His 88-millimetre guns again barred our way. We flung in strong armoured forces and infantry and luckily builtup tank reserves, enabling us to afford losses without jeopardising the position of the Nile Delta, but Rommel was pushed back only a few miles. We have still not smashed his anti-tank positions, stretching along the front. That remains our problem.
