The Imperial troops are holding their ground on the Egyptian front, despite Axis counter-attacks, says a despatch from Cairo this afternoon, the Exchange Telegraph Agency s correspondent with the Eighth Army says. Despite his local counter-attacks, Rommel is on the defensive and the Axis forces are dug in all along the front. .Even tanks have been dug’ in. This explains the limited British gams m the centre, where fighting is violent. The Germans are bearing the brunt of defence and counter-attacks in all sectors.
