“WE GO FAST.” “We Go Fast” and “Dressed to Kill,” will be finally shown tonight. “49th PARALLEL.” Leslie Howard and Laurence Olivier can be relied on for excellent acting, but in 49th Parallel,” which will be shown tomorrow night at the State Theatre, they do more than that— they have a message for the audience. 49th Parallel” is one of the greatest pictures ever brought to the screen. Taken on its purely surface qualities it could be mistaken for an expose of the easygoing even slipshod methods of democracy—Canada’s 11,000,000 hunting one Nazi, unconsciously sheltering him, telling him of its grouches and its laziness, playing and talking while Europe runs with blood and sweat. In its subtlety it shows democracy for what i t is—ll,ooo,ooo people living happily across the only unguarded frontier in the world from 120,000,000; 11,000,000 people of all creeds and classes working worshipping, and thinking as they please. In the picture the grim ruthlessness of the Huns is clearly demonstrated. .... . !
