HOME GUARD
USE OF MUNICIPAL HALL. ’kJ, BOROUGH COUNCIL’S DECISION. The Home Guard adjutant wrote to the Masterton Borough Council meeting last night in reference to the use of the Municipal Hall for training purposes, stating that on Thursday last the hall was not available owing to a dance and that next Thursday there would be another dance in the hall. The letter asked that the council should make available the Municipal Hall for the Home Guard on the original nights. Councillor Wilson said that in his opinion the Home Guard should have the preference over dances or any other form of entertainment in the Municipal Hall as they were engaged in work of national importance. Councillors Low and Morice and other councillors agreed with Councillor Wilson, who moved that the use of the hall be made available for the Home Guard on the nights requested unless in exceptional cases. _ Councillor Morice seconded the motion which was carried. The Town Clerk, on making enquiries, ascertained that the Drill Hall had been formerly available for one night a week to the Home Guard, but that that arrangement had been since cancelled as the Drill Hall was now required for military
