POSTHUMOUS AWARD MADE TO ADMIRAL. SPLENDID RECORD OF SERVICE. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) WASHINGTON, July 20. Announcing the posthumous award of the Distinguished Service Medal to the late Vice-Admiral Bristol, the Navy Department disclosed that his single task force escorted 2400 merchantmen across the Atlantic last winter, losing only eight ships. Approximately 60 convoys were entrusted to Admiral Bristol’s command during the winter of 1941-42. Admiral Bristol died at sea from natural causes.
