On Axis Invaders of Egypt DAY AND NIGHT AIR ONSLAUGHTS ON FUKA AND EL DABA THIRD NAVAL BOMBARDMENT OF MERSA MATRUH LONDON, July 21. While land fighting in Egypt is still confined to patrols by infantry and mobile armoured forces, the Axis invaders during the last two days have been successfully attacked from the air and the sea. Mersa Matruh was bombarded by the Royal Navy yesterday for the third time in four days. Targets on the shore and shipping in the harbour were bombarded with deadly accuracy for half an hour. Over 400 high-explosive shells were fired and an officer said that all were put in the right place. Air attacks have been made on the enemy without respite day and night. The landing grounds at Fuka and El Daba were the principal objectives. They are described by a correspondent as “nice juicy targets.’’ More than 100 aircraft went over one landing ground yesterday and dropped dispersal bombs, with an explosive range of 400 yards. They did a lot of damage. On a minimum estimate, 30 enemy machines were badly damaged at Fuka. There is no reason to believe that the attack on El Daba was less effective.
