RELEASED FROM CAMP

FARM WORKERS & ARTISANS. STATEMENT OF POSITION. About sixty men were released from camp yesterday by the Wairarapa Armed Forces Appeal Board. Nearly all the men were farmers, Put others included artisans required to carry out earthquake repair work. The period ol release varied from one to six months. The chairman of the board, Mr T. Jordan, referring to the position generally in relation to the release of men from camp, said this morning that the officers commanding camps had power to grant leave up to 14 days. If a release was desired for longer periods, application should be made to the district Armed Forces Appeal Board. There was no automatic release. Every case was considered on its merits. The period of release granted was according to the individual circumstances.
