HELD BY ALLIED FORCES In Central Sector in Egypt AGAINST FURIOUS ENEMY ASSAULTS NEW ZEALANDERS SPEARHEAD OF EIGHTH ARMY ATTACK \ ' LONDON, July 17. _ The latest news of the fighting in Egypt is that the British troops still hold positions on the Ruiversak ridge, in spite oi furious efforts by the enemy to dislodge them. In the north fighting moves to and fro, but there is no major change m the situation. No reports have been received from the •southern section since the announcement of a slight enemy withdrawal. Today the enemy launched an attack, principally of infantry, against positions held by Indians, but it was beaten off. This followed the juncture of an attack last night with tanks and guns against positions held by the New Zealanders a little further south.
