Tolhurst, Cole Street, Masterton, is visiting Wellington. Mrs Cook, Kelburn, is spending a few days with her mother, Mrs Walter Cameron, Te Ore Ore. Mrs Blair, Essex Street, Masterton, who has been visiting Waipukurau, has returned to Masterton. Able Seaman A. H. Horsfall, N.Z.D., has been awarded the D.S.M. for good service in an attack against enemy ships. Lieutenant Commander R. S. Cameron, R.N.Z.N.V.R., has been mentioned in dispatches for good service in mine-sweeping. Mr H. E. Evans, newly-appointed lay canon of the Cathedral Church of St. Paul, Wellington, was last evening installed by the Bishop of Wellington, the Rt. Rev. H. St. Barbe Holland. Clergy attending the Diocesan Synod formed a special choir for the occasion. The new clerical canon, the Rev. H. E. K. Fry, vicar of Lower Hutt, and the other lay canon, Mr F. W. Gilligan, will be installed later. The Wellington Diocesan Synod last night elected the following standing committee: —Clergy, Ven. Archdeacon W. Bullock, Wellington; Ven. Archdeacon F. H. Petrie, Rangitikei; Ven. Archdeacon E. J. Rich, Masterton; Ven. Archdeacon J. Young, Waitotara; Rev. Canon D. B. Malcolm, Rev. H. S. I. Kennedy, Rev. Canon N. F. E. Robertshawe. Laity: Messrs W. E. Arnold, C. P. Brown, E. D. Cachemaille, C. T. Cox, H. E. Evans, E. F. Hadfield, H. A. Huggins, E. M. Stace, and R. H. Webb. The first Maori graduate under the Empire Air Training Plan to be selected in Canada for a temporary commission has been granted the rank of pilot officer in the General Duties Branch of the Royal New Zealand Air Force. He is Pilot Officer Hohepa Mete Meha, Waipawa, Hawke’s Bay. Pilot Officer Meha is not the first Maori to receive a commission in the Air Force; in fact, several members of the Maori race have been so commissioned, but this officer is the first Maori graduate to be commissioned in Canada. An announcement that the New Zealand Minister in Washington, Mr Nash, would shortly proceed to London for discussions with the United Kingdom Government on a number of financial, marketing and allied problems connected with New Zealand s war effort, was made yesterday by the Prime Minister, Mr Fraser. While in London, Mr Nash will attend the meetings of the War Cabinet as the accredited representative of the New Zealand Goveminent. It is expected, that Mr Nash will be in London for two or three weeks.

The funeral of the late Mrs W. H. Trudgecn took place at Masterton yesterday afternoon. The services at the Salvation Army Citadel and at the graveside were conducted by Major Ransom. There was a large cortege and a number of beautiful floral tributes included wreaths from the Masterion Salvation Army Corps, Messrs John Graham and Co., Ltd., officers and members of the Stonehenge Druids The pall bearers were Messrs H. °A. R. Dunderdale, A. Dixon (Druids). R. C. Jordain, R. Graham, F. Reeves and J. W. McKenzie.
