Women For Armed Forces.

“The response to the urgent national call to women for suitable service in the armed forces has not been nearly as good as it should have been,” said the Minister of National Service, Mr Broadfoot at Wellington yesterday. “I do not believe,” he added, “that this result is due to indifference or apathy among the thousands of women concerned, but rather to a lack of appreciation of the urgency of the need. It cannot be emphasised too strongly that the appeal was not made before it was due. The plain stark truth is that New Zealand’s share in the great war effort will require the recruiting of many thousands of women this year for various duties in the Navy, Army and Air Force.”
