WHEAT GROWING

INCREASED ACREAGE MOST ESSENTIAL. MAINTENANCE OR PROVISION OF LABOUR. At a recent meeting of the local Primary Production Council the belief was generally held that a much greater area of wheat would be grown if farmers more clearly understood the vital need for it. As a consequence, it was resolved to hold a series of meetings throughout the district in order to give the farming community an opportunity of hearing really authoritative information on the Pacific situation. In addition instructions are to hand relating to the maintenance or the provision of adequate labour for primary production during the coming season and farme'rs generally should not miss the opportunity provided by these meetings to become familiar with the labour supply plans. The first meeting was held at Pirinoa last week and further meetings are advertised in this issue. Quite apart from its bearing on the wheat campaign and primary production generally, the information divulged by the two Wairarapa Members, Messrs J. Robertson and B. Roberts, will prove of great interest to all who wish to be kept well informed in these difficult days.
