LYONS REFLAGGED

ON FRENCH NATIONAL DAV demonstrations persist. IN SPITE OF POLICE EFFORTS. (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, July 15. The first message regarding the demonstrations in Lyons on July 14 has reached General de Gaulle’s headquarters. A procession of many thousands, heading towards the Place Carnot, was broken up by strong police cordons. Throe other processions were then formed. The police drove two of them into the Place Bellecotir and (he Place Des Terreuax, but the third succeeded in penetrating to the Place Carnpt. It included a number of students and women carrying children. There were a number of scuffles when members of the Legion des Combattan is attempted to interfere. The crowds became hostile and shouted, “Send the Legion to Russia!” Crowds gathered before the American Consulate and cheered continuously and the streets rang to the strains of the Marseillaise. Lyons was a mass of flags from working class districts to the millionaires’ street, the Avenue De Saxe, and every wall bore the slogan: “Beflag your houses! Rendezvous at the Place Carnot at 6.30 p.m.”
