REPORTED ON CENTRAL SECTOR HEAVY ARMOURED FORCES ENGAGED. MUCH DEPENDENT ON OUTCOME. LONDON, July 16. A MAJOR BATTLE IS TAKING PLACE IN EGYPT, IN THE CENTRAL SECTOR. THE BATTLE IS IN THE AREA NEAR THE RIDGE ATTACKED BY BRITISH FORCES AT DAWN ON WEDNESDAY. It is indicated that most of the enemy’s armoured forces are engaged. No details oi the progress of the battle are available. A very great deal depends on the outcome. The battle was reported to be continuing, this ingDuring the past 2 4 hours the British forces had recaptured the lost ground round the railway station of Tel el Isa, on the northern sector, but today the enemy again managed to secure the area. The rest of the northern sector positions remained firmly in British hands. <
