FIGHTING IN TORRID HEAT

Strain on Men Growing Heavier Every Day MORE ENEMY ATTACKS IN NORTHERN SECTOR UNTIRING & SUCCESSFUL ACTIVITY OF ALLIED AIR FORCES LONDON, July 15. lii Egypt, action in the Desert battle is concentrated in the, northern sector. The enemy yesterday evening made a third attempt to pierce the British salient. An attack with tanks and infantry continued during the night. An agency correspondent in Cairo states that the Eighth Army is believed to have the situation in hand. 1 A very important part is being played by the aerial artillery, as fighterbombers are now called, working in close co-operation with the infantry. A record number of sorties was made against the enemy by fighter-bombers yesterday in their non-stop offensive against enemy concentrations. Confirmed results of these attacks are impressive. Light fighters and bombers are also maintaining large-scale attacks. United States bombers attacked Benghazi and Tobruk. In one air attack on an enemy convoy of 15 vehicles, including armoured cars and a tank, all but one vehicle were destroyed. Last night our planes attacked Tobruk, causing great fires. The fighting in Egypt is going on under the full intensity of the summer sun. The heat is almost unbearable, and the strain on the men is growing heavier every day, says the Cairo correspondent of “The Tinies.” The supply problem, is more acute for both sides because of the increased consumption of water and petrol.
