POWER SUPPLY
MEETING OF WAIRARAPA BOARD REVENUE SATISFACTORY. RESTRICTIONS ON EQUIPMENT. The revenue returns for June were very satisfactory, stated Mr Georgs. Brown, secretary-manager of the Wairarapa Electric Pother Board, reporting to today’s meeting of the board. The estimate for June was exceeded by £564. For the first three months of the financial year, April to June, the net revenue was £19,700, as compared with £18,320 in the corresponding period last year. The position in connection with bulk supply was also satisfactory. Up to June 27, reported Mr Brown, the highest peak was 4352 kilowatts, which was 70 higher than the estimate. On June 27, between 5.30 and 6.0 p.m., a freak peak of 4636 kilowatts was recorded, 284 kilowatts higher than the previous highest peak for the quarter and 1100 kilowatts higher than the average Saturday night peak. It was directly attributable to the earthquake. On account of the very large number of chimneys which were destroyed every radiator in the district must have b?en working overtime. That peak cost the board £568. The number of consumers was now 6335, as compared with 6219 twelve months ago. A regulation had been gazetted, said Mr Brown, prohibiting the manufacture and importation of practically all electrical appliances other than motors and lamps. The main factor under the new conditions would be whether or not supplies of necessary materials would be available to maintain in a workable condition, the appliances which were now in use. All existing supplies of such materials were being reserved for this purpose.
