LATEST OFFICIAL FORECAST HARD FROSTS TONIGHT. IMPROVEMENT IN PROSPECT. The following official weather report and forecast was issued by the Meteorological Office, Wellington, at noon today:— DISTRICT FORECAST: Strong southerly winds. Weather cloudy with occasional showers of rain or sleet becoming less frequent. Temperatures cold, with hard frosts tonight in sheltered positions. FURTHER OUTLOOK: Improving, but remaining cold. LOCAL REPORT. Mr N. W. Towns reports as follows for the 24 hours ended 8 a.m. today:— Barograph, 30.34; shade temperature, maximum, 53.8; minimum, 29.9; terrestrial, 22.7; sunshine, 1 hour 18 minutes; rain, 47 points; frost, 7.7 degrees. Mr H. M. Boddington reports that 41 points of rain fell at Solway during the 24 hours ended 9 a.m. today. PHASES OF THE MOON. JULY. New moon, July 14. First quarter, July 21. Full moon, July 28. Draw blinds at 5.35 p.m. today; raise them at 7.12 a.m. tomorrow.
