NAVY LEAGUE

LADIES’ AUXILIARY. MEETING OF COMMITTEE. The monthly meeting of the committee of the Ladies’ Auxiliary of the Masterton Navy League was held yesterday afternoon, Mrs S. H. Gawith presiding. Apologies for absence were received from Mesdames S. Fletcher. W H. Robies.on. O. A. Bunny, D. Buchanan. P. H. Nathan, V 7. G. Lamb, H. K. Mclntosh. C. Deans, P. H. Borthwick, and Misses B. Vallance, J. McLaren and B. Barton. It was reported that a Navy League Union Jack had been presented to the Tinui School on July 9. the 26 pupils having joined the League. To date 148 school members have been enrolled for 1942 with many more returns to come to hand. Arrangements were made for the Navy League to take charge of the Anzac Club from July 27 until July 31. The wool committee reported that 125 garments had been packed for transport to Wellington, bringing the total of knitted garments' received since the beginning of the year to 620. A small number of these had been given to local men joining the Navy and the remainder sent to the Navy League War Council, for shipment overseas. Since the beginning of the year 152 garments had been donated by members or purchased from donations in money and sent to the Seamen’s Mission to be given to sailors who had lost clothing through enemy action. It was reported that the purchase of garments had ceased since the coupon system came into operation. It was decided to send an application to the Ration Controller for a permit to buy clothing for seamen without coupons. The committee desire to thank all those who have helped to provide clothing for seamen, or who are in any way assisting the Navy League’s war effort.
