SECOND HAND GOODS. ANNOUNCEMENT BY CONTROLLER (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. Imperfect, shop-soiled or secondhand goods other than hosiery, may now be sold at half the ruling coupon pointings. This amendment to the clothing rationing scheme was announced last night by the Rationing Controller, Mr J. E. Thomas, who said the previour arrangement in respect of these goods, whereby they could be sold coupon full provided the selling price was less than 2s multiplied by the normal coupon value of the goods concerned had been cancelled. Mr Thomas said the special block of 15 coupons was now ready for the next-of-kin of all members of t.he armed services overseas, other than prisoners of war, for whom other provision had been made. These coupons could be used' only for the purchase of materials or clothing for dispatch to the men overseas. Application in each case was to be made by the next-of-kin on the special envelope available at all Post Offices. | Extra coupons for men and women discharged from the forces after a period of service were now available on application to rationing officers. This additional issue had been provided for the establishment of a wardrobe on their return to civilian life. “My attention has been drawn,” said Mr Thomas, “to the fact that some retailers are selling hosiery, as defined under'the Hosiery Rationing Order, on ‘M’ coupons at half rates where the stockings are manufacturers’ seconds. This is contrary to instructions which have already been issued, to the effect that with the exception of special stockings sold only to nurses, no stockings of silk, art silk, lisle, or any mixture thereof, may be sold prior to July 26 except on surrender of coupon ‘X’ 1. A further announcement in connection with the sale of hosiery after July 25 will be made shortly.”
