GERMAN CORPSES
STREWN OVER BATTLE AREAS. ATTACKS PRESSED REGARDLESS OF LOSSES. (British Official Wireless.)' (Received This Day, 9.35 a.m.) RUGBY, July 13. At Voronezh, according to Moscow messages, the main German armoured forces of von Kleist are attempting to widen their bridgehead on the east bank of the Don. The attempts of the Germans who have crossed the river to make theii’ way to Voronezh are still being stubbornly resisted. The “Pravda” says the ground is strewn with German corpses, wrecked tanks and field guns, as the Red Army fights grimly for every hill and path. In spite of tremendous German losses, the position round the city is reported to be exceedingly grave, as enemy pressure continues regardless of losses'. The Germans are also attacking on the Kalinin front, and in certain places have made their way forward over heaps of corpses. The situation of this advance is given by the Germans as south-west of Rjev. Meanwhile the German drive down the right bank of the Don proceeds at a considerable pace. As far as can be seen at present, the Russians have not been caught unprepared and are withdrawing as they did last year.
