GERMAN CLAIMS

ENCIRCLEMENT OF SOVIET UNITS. CAPTURE OF 30,000 PRISONERS ALLEGED. (Received This Day, 9.35 a.m.) LONDON, July 13. An official announcement from Berlin claims that, after an outflanking movement, several Russian rifle divisions,, cavalry divisions and a tank brigade are encircled south-west of Rjev and are now being annihilated. Already, it is added, 30,000 Russians have been taken prisoner. The Vichy radio says, the Germans

have occupied Boguchar. The Gerrnans have opened an offensive in the direction of Taganrog, after piercing the Russian defences in the Sea of Azov area. A Russian communique states: “Our troops throughout the night fought the enemy on the approaches to the Voronezh and Boguchar areas. There are no changes of importance oil other fronts.”
