HITTING ENEMY HARD
NEW ZEALAND BATTLE GROUPS SUCCESS IN QUICK MOBILE RAIDS. ENEMY CONTINUOUSLY SHELLED. (Official War Correspondent N.Z.E.F.) CAIRO, July 11. Mobile columns of the New Zealand Forces have been again at close grips with the Hun in the past three days. New Zealand gunners again distinguished themselves and as mobile columns beat off German attacks yesterday The 25-pounders and six-pound anti-tank guns hit the enemy hard and continuously. Enemy columns with armoured support striving to their utmost to advance toward the Nazi dream Alexandria—have been shelled continuously from daylight till dark by the New Zealand gunners. At least three enemy tanks fell to their deadly shooting yesterday. Latest reports from the front tonight say that New Zealand s haid-hit-ting, well-equipped battle groups were extremely active today. They have been hitting the enemy with quick mobile raids. Because of the extremely 1 mobile role in which the New Zealand: ers have been used since their entry just a fortnight ago into the battle foj Egypt, they v have now fought in most sectors in the extensive El Alamem 1 battle area. In which sector they are fighting at present, it would be unwise ( at this stage to reveal. They were not in the spectacular Allied attack on the northern sector, but they have been engaged- in the past three days in hitting Axis columns with telling effect.
