S.M. COURT
SITTING AT CARTERTON LIQUOR NEAR DANCE HALLS. TWO ACCUSED FINED. (“Times-Age” Special.) Mr H. P. Lawry, S.M., presided over the monthly sitting of the Carterton Magistrate’s Court yesterday. John W. Benge was charged by the police with having had liquor in his possession in the vicinity of the State Theatre on Saturday, May 9, during a dance. The case was adjourned from the last sitting. Mr H. H. Daniell, who appeared for Benge, now pleaded guilty to the charge. Accused was fined £5 with costs 10s. The police charged Arthur Battersley Thomas, that on May 16th he had liquor in his possession at the Parkvale Hall during a dance. Accused did not appear, and was fined £2 with 10s costs. W. A. Hart was charged by the police that being the driver of a motor truck on Anderson’s Line, he failed to give way to an approaching bus. He pleaded not guilty and was defended by Mr H. H. Daniell. A fine of £1 was imposed. Traffic Inspector A. E. Ansell proceeded against W. J. Flaws, that on March 25, at Greytown, he operated a heavy motor vehicle along the Greytown-Featherston main highway at a speed exceeding the maximum of 25 miles per hour provided for such a vehicle. Accused pleaded guilty and was fined 30s with costs 10s.
