ENJOYABLE CONCERT ‘TJ’T SOLDIERS ENTERTAINED. (“Times-Age” Special.) A much-appreciated concert programme was provided at the King’s Theatre, Carterton ,last evening, when members of the Girls’ Club, Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union, and the Savage Club entertained a large number of men of the Services. The programme was an excellent one, and many of the items were encored. Those taking part were heartily thanked, and were afterwards entertained at supper. OBITUARY MR JAMES S. MARTIN. Following a short illness, Mr James Samuel Martin died at the Greytown Hospital at 9.15 o’clock last evening. Deceased was taken suddenly ill on Monday, and was ordered to the Greytown Hospital. Born at Carterton in 1882, the late Mr Martin had lived the whole of his life in the Carterton district. He leaves a widow, a married daughter, Mrs Carswell, of Matahiwi, and two grandchildren to mourn their loss. The funeral will take place tomorrow (Friday), leaving King’s Mortuary Chapel, Broadway, Carterton, after a service, commencing at 1.30 p.m., for the Clarcville Cemetery. Surge Tower Damaged. The surge tower at the Kourarau hydro-electric works was badly damaged in the recent earthquake. After inspection by members of the Wairarapa Power Board, the secretary-mana-ger and the engineer, it was decided to carry out the necessary repairs. Heavy Frost. Carterton experienced a very heavy frost this morning. Football Match. At the Royal Oak football ground on Saturday, the Carterton senior war time fifteen will play the Army team. The Carterton fifteen has been training steadily, and as their opponents are a fit side the game should be a very interesting one. The kick-off will be at 2.45 p.m., and a collection will be taken at the gate. Shop Day. St. Mark’s Ladies’ Guild will hold a shop day tomorrow in the bandroom. Luncheon and afternoon teas will be 1 available, and an abundance of cakes, produce and'other goods will be on sale. Dance at Belvedere. A dance will be held in the Belvedere schoolroom tomorrow night, at which good music and supper will be provided. Dance and Euchre Party. On Saturday evening a dance and euchre party will be held by the Parkvale Patriotic Committee, in aid of patriotic funds. These dances are always popular, and there is sure to be a large attendance. The music will be played by Mrs V. J. Ashton’s orchestra. Mr A. Ward is the secretary. I Personal Items. The death occurred at Hamilton on Monday of Mr W. G. Jackways, who was well known in the Dalefield district.
