SMALLPOX OUTBREAK
REPORTED IN SCOTLAND SINCE ARRIVAL OF ONE CASE. IN PASSENGER SHIP FROM BOMBAY. (By Telegraph—Press Association— Copyright) (Received This Day, 1.15 p.m.) LONDON, July 8. The Secretary of State for Scotland (the Rt. Hon Thomas Johnston) referred in the House of Commons to an alarming outbreak cf smallpox in Glasgow. Since the arrival of a passenger ship from Bombay on May 29, on which there was one case, 24 cases have been reported in Scotland, with four deaths, there have also been three , cases in England. The population responded promptly to the authorities’ appeal that they should undergo vaccination. Today alone, 400,000 persons in Glasgow are voluntarily being vaccinated.
